Known for its delicate yet complex flavours, Glenallachie is gaining recognition amongst those who are fans of  unique and nuanced whiskies.

With some lovely honeyed bottlings atop an already fruity profile, these whiskies are approachable yet intriguing.

Whether you’re looking for a treat for yourself or a special someone, Royal Mile Whiskies extensive selection of Glenallachie malts are sure to impress, including iconic expressions and old and rare whiskies, all available for purchase both online and in our store.

Glenallachie isn't the most well known distillery but that should all change soon with the new ownership of the Glenallachie Distillers Company Ltd taking over. Its delicate yet complex nature means it can add a wonderful depth to blends and its subtle flora aroma means it will not overpower any other whiskies in that blend. Although rarely seen as a single malt there have been rare occasions where an official bottling has surfaced.

Glenallachie is one of the many distilleries built in the 1960s with the purpose of producing malt for blended whiskies. It was founded by Mackinlay McPherson Ltd. to produce whisky for their famed Mackinlay's blend. It was sold to the Invergordon distillers group in 1985 who soon mohtballed the distillery and it would not produce whisky again until it was sold, once again, to Campbell Distillers (who would later become part of Perniod Ricard). When it was re-opened in 1989 two more stills were added to increase the capacity.

While it may be a key component in serveral blends, Glenallachie has been a very elusive single malt with only a couple of official releases over the years. There have been independant bottlings but, again, these are nowhere near as common as they are with other distilleries. There werre rumours that there was a bottling of Glenallachie for a supermarket chain in Belgium but haven't found a confirmation of this.

Many people in the whisky industry believe that Glenallachie is highly underrated and that it deserves more attention but with the stocks being needed as Ballantine's and Chivas Regal gain more popularity we migth have to settle for the odd indy bottling here and there.
